International Conference on Gender and Communication
UNESCO is supporting the National Institute of Women in Costa Rica to organize an International Conference on Gender and Communication. This event is geared towards promoting gender equality in media and will also focus on the Gender Sensitive Indicators in Media (GSIM) developed by UNESCO.
The event is divided into two parts. On the first day there will be a Symposium on a Reflection of the Image of Women in Medias of Communication. This will be directed at 50 female leaders from different areas including business, politics and communication. On this day, the Institute will present the results of an analysis of media content in Costa Rica using the UNESCO Gender Sensitive Indicators in Media (GSIM). Discussions will also focus on the importance of integrating gender perspective in media content. On the second day, there will be a workshop directed at 50 Costa Rican journalists on how they can incorporate gender perspectives in their work. UNESCO’ involvement in organizing this event is based on its support for promoting gender equality and its belief that gender equality in media is an important element needed to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
