The information meeting on the Category II Centre on Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves, Two Coastlines United by Their Culture and Nature under the auspices of UNESCO, will take place on Tuesday, 7 October 2014 in Room XI from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The Agreement for the Establishment of the Centre was signed at Castellet I Gornal on 5 April 2014 by the Director-General of UNESCO and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to UNESCO in the presence of the Minister of Environment and the Secretary of State for Environment of the Kingdom of Spain.
This is the first UNESCO Category II Centre associated with the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme and which brings together for the first time a private organization, the Abertis Foundation, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and its Autonomous Body for National Parks (OAPN) and the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences of UNESCO.
This first Centre of the MAB Programme will serve as a model for scientific cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean and provide an excellent platform of information exchange and sharing on all issues related to biosphere reserves and their sustainable development.
