Inauguration of Preah Vihear Eco-Museum
Since 2008 and within the framework of the MDG-F “Cultural Industries Support Programme” UNESCO has also been involved in the development of cultural centers in the provinces of Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri and Preah Vihear.
These cultural centers should be seen as government resource centers where visitors would be able to visit small exhibitions on local culture and may obtain more information about the provinces and the indigenous peoples. The centers will also serve for the organizing of special cultural events such as temporary exhibitions and cultural performances and as meeting points for the government, indigenous peoples and NGO’s operating in the provinces.
A Cultural Center that has had special attention is the Eco-Global Museum of Preah Vihear, which is situated at the outskirts of the city of Sraem in the province of Preah Vihear. The cultural center will combine an exhibition on the indigenous Kouy community and the province’s rich heritage in archaeology, history, fauna and flora. This cultural center will open its doors to the public in March 2018 and will also be a facility from which to visit the Cultural World Heritage site of Preah Vihear, situated 23 km to the north.
