High-Level Panel ‘Water Security and Sustainable Development: Co-operation among Disciplines and Stakeholders’
2015 is a special year for the UNESCO Water Network as UNESCO’s water programmes are celebrating their 50th anniversary. In particular, the International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP), the only intergovernmental programme of the UN system devoted to water research, water resources management, water education and capacity building, celebrates 40 years of existence.
On the occasion of this anniversary, UNESCO-IHP and K-water are organizing during the 7th World Water Forum the High Level Panel ‘Water Security and Sustainable Development: Co-operation among Disciplines and Stakeholders’.
The High-level panel aims to emphasize the importance of co-operation among disciplines and connect scientific findings into the social, economic and political processes to address water security challenges and provide feedback mechanisms for the upcoming Sustainable Development Goals and post-2015 processes.
Experts from different regions will present their perspectives and experiences focusing on the science and policy developments needed to address the water security challenges in the context of sustainable development. The High Level Panel will be organized as a special event during the 7th World Water Forum and will enable sharing of information and experiences between scientists, policy makers and stakeholders so as to discuss challenges and opportunities linked to sustainable development, particularly in the context of water security.
