From Goal to Action: UNESCO Leads the Agenda to Monitor Education Globally
Without accurate data that countries can use to monitor progress and develop evidence-based policies, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will remain just that – a set of goals. In response, UNESCO, through the Institute for Statistics (UIS), is taking a leadership role in developing the frameworks and indicators needed to monitor key targets in the SDGs, especially related to education.
The Institute has launched several initiatives to help countries develop and use a new generation of data to improve the learning outcomes of all children and youth. Silvia Montoya, UIS Director, will be presenting these developments, including a new global observatory on equity and inclusion in education. Leading experts and decision-makers will explore different options to help develop the tools and data needed by countries to set their own targets and monitor progress towards the new global education goal.
