The UNESCO Offices in San José and Montevideo, in coordination with the association CONEXIÓN, will develop the Forum of Young Digital Leaders on the 16th and 17th of May 2019 "Let's innovate for change, build peace in the network" to strengthen the actions by the youth to promote peace and positive social change reinforcing the role of information and communication technologies in the prevention of youth violence.br /
For the eleventh consecutive year, this coming May 17 2019, El Salvador will celebrate Internet Day (DDI), promoted by the association CONEXIÓN and partner organizations, with the aim of making visible the social responsibilities in the use of technology and promote communication among young people, governments, companies, universities, development agencies and cooperation, among other actors.br /br /In order to strengthen the actions directed by youth to promote peace, positive social change and sustainable development, UNESCO in the Latin American and Caribbean region has been reinforcing the role of information technologies in its work and communication in the prevention of youth violence and in the development of their digital capacities.br /br /On this occasion, the Regional Forum of Digital Leaders seeks to bring together young generators of digital content from the region engaged in a role to promote a culture of peace and active, responsible and aware participation of young people in the digital space. This Forum of young leaders considers as continuity the actions initiated in the framework of the regional strategy of the Project "Reduction of Extreme Youth Violence through the use of new technologies (ICT) in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala" supported by the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation (AECID), which has allowed carrying out a set of actions such as the implementation of Hackatons on violence prevention, the provision of digital courses and tools for young people, as well as the review and analysis of public policy from a violence prevention approach incorporating ICT, centered in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.br /br /The strategy of this initiative includes involving the Young Digital Leaders and Influencers to participate, sensitizing them in the fight against the culture of violence existing on the Internet and thus join as allies in the process of building peace in the minds of youth.
