FLOODIS : Demonstration Workshop in Italy
The final end-user validation workshop and the field testing are part of the planned activities of the EU project FLOODIS (Integrating GMES Emergency Services with satellite navigation and communication for establishing a flood information service).
The field testing, of paramount importance for the final evaluation of the project, will check FLOODIS system core ability to send back actual information about the situation “in the field”, providing up-to-date, local information to disaster management centres, civil protection agencies, emergency response units, as well as affected citizens.
The FLOODIS prototype system was demonstrated to end-users for the first time in the Shkodra region of Albania in July. The area around the city of Shkodra, to the south of Lake Shkodra, was badly hit by floods in 2010. The team will demonstrate the system to representatives of the General Directorate for Civil Emergencies, with the support of the Red Cross of Albania. CIMA Research Foundation Albania and IGEWE have also assisted the team with the necessary data inputs for a simulated flood occurrence.
