With this event, the Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean is launching a series of talks with leading experts from Chile. The meetings will address issues that are on the national agenda and that also form part of regional discussions.
The first dialogue is taking place on World Teachers’ Day. The purpose of this is to contribute to enriching the implementation of the Chilean law on teachers’ professional development. This is the most complete regulation the South American country has ever had on the topic. The reality of teaching in the regional context will also be addressed.
The event will be attended by team members of the Chilean program Suma y Sigue, winner of the 2018 UNESCO-Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for outstanding practice and performance in enhancing the effectiveness of teachers.
OREALC/UNESCO Santiago will give a presentation on the issue of teaching Latin America and the Caribbean and analyze the policy of teacher professionalization in Chile with a panel of representatives from teachers’ unions, academics and experts who will discuss the challenges of teacher professionalization in Chile.
