Through its “Cultural Preservation Programme”, Germany has supported the preservation of cultural heritage across the globe since 1981.
The objective of this programme is to preserve valuable cultural sites around the world and to overcome dividing lines by building up a cultural dialogue in a spirit of partnership. The supported projects range from the restoration and conservation of historical buildings, the collection and documentation of oral traditions in music and literature to the basic and further training of restoration workers, archivists and museum experts.
The exhibition will present 13 projetcs from the cultural preservation programme, amongst them the restauration measures at the temple complex of Borobodur (Indonesia), the preservation of ancient manuscripts in Timbuktu (Mali) and the restoration and documentation of the bazaar or Erbil (Iraq)
