+∞ is a participative and evolving exhibition, presenting selected themes pertaining to the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022). Five panels will be presented during the opening at UNESCO Headquarters, on 10 December 2014, on the occasion of Human rights day. +∞ reflects not only the need to draw people together for a common project, but it also aims at revealing the immense potential of mechanisms such as a Decade, to bringing along peoples from different cultures. +∞ is about inviting people to contribute in a reflection on crucial contemporary issues and to initiate their own ways to use or create paths for dialogue and respect at micro-level as well as at more global scales.
The exhibition +∞ illustrates the immensity of all potentials when cultures meet and interact. The International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013-2022) is an appeal to everyone's responsibility, including to this creative initiative. Inaugurated on 10 December 2014, the Human Rights Day, + ∞ is launched with a set of five panels developed by Ruedi Baur, international graphic designer:
-“Migrants” elaborated with the support of UNHCR, presents the issue of “forced” human migrations where peoples struggle every day for more dignity, justice and peace
-“African women in the Culture of Peace”: Women are often disproportionately hit by conflicts and global crises, whereas they are also key-vectors of a culture of peace. They were chosen as role-models for inspiring present and future generations, boys and girls alike
-“Money": Bank notes highlight the capacity to connect or disconnect people. What does “The future we want” look like? What are the actual resources made available to attain Education for All, respect for human rights, cultural diversity and to access first needs?
-“Maps” invites to reflect on boarders’ definition and crossing. At the time of fiber optic communications, territorial distances reduce although accelerated communication does not automatically lead to a genuine dialogue.
-“Inspiration” invites visitors to complete an open space to free their imagination and creativity. Several degrees of white were chosen on purpose to highlight the diversity of nuances and opinions.
Additional panels will address other core-issues in a continuously enriched process as a living art work.
Each exhibition panel (4,00 m length * 1,75 m width) are composed of approximatively 50 elements, such as pictures, maps, bank notes, and any related document relevant to conceptualize the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures. Each one is a unique creation designed especially for the purpose of the exhibition.
The concept of the exhibition was developed in close cooperation with the artist Ruedi Baur, an international graphic designer, founder of the workshop Intégral Ruedi Baur in 1989. Towards the end of the 80s, Baur came to Paris and developed design projects for major Parisian art institutions including the Cinémathèque française, the musée Rodin and the Pompidou Center. Baur designed the complete way finding and identification system for the Pompidou Center’s reopening in 2000, followed by the Cité universitaire internationale in Paris and the United Nations Office in Geneva. Baur lectures on transdisciplinary design in several design colleges since 1987, and notably at the High School of Art and Design in Geneva. For the Unesco project "+∞", Ruedi Baur closely collaborated with Vera Baur, and Chantal Grossen and Afrouz Razavi of Integral. (www.ruedi-baur.eu - www.irb-paris.eu).
