Ethics Teachers’ Training Course in Egypt
The UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in Egypt are organizing an Ethics Teachers’ Training Course (ETTC) in Cairo, Egypt, from 6 to 9 May 2018, under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt.
The ETTC will offer a unique opportunity for participants from Egypt and other Arab countries to develop their ethics teaching capacities, and get acquainted with relevant ethics teaching resources. The ETTC will be conducted in English by a team of international experts with extensive experience in ethics education.
The Training Courses are one of the main components of UNESCO’s bioethics professional capacity-building programme, targeting bioethics or ethics of science educators who have recently begun teaching, or will soon commence their teaching careers at various institutions of higher education.
They are designed to
- introduce participants to the means and resources for teaching ethics of sciences and bioethics;
- teach participants methodologies and methods for teaching ethics of sciences and bioethics;
- assess and provide feedback on participants’ demonstrations of teaching skills under the guidance of experienced facilitators.
The Training Courses are conducted by international and local experts with extensive experience in ethics and bioethics education.
A successful candidate for the ETTC should hold a Master or higher degree in fields such as law, biology, medicine, philosophy, ethics, or social sciences, and have experience in the ethical dimensions of these areas. Moreover, the candidate should have experience or solid plans to teach ethics as well as a university affiliation; and a good command of the English language.
Interested candidates are invited to submit a registration form to UNESCO (firstname.lastname@example.org) as early as possible, and before the 10 April 2018 deadline. Applicants should also include a letter of motivation (up to 600 words, in English) explaining why they wish to participate in the course and how they expect to benefit from it.
While participation in the course is free, participants are expected to cover their own travel, meals and accommodation in Cairo during the training, if applicable.
