The UNESCO San José Office, the UNESCO-IHP Ecohydrology Committee, the IHP National Committees for Costa Rica and El Salvador, in coordination with their respective environment ministries, are organizing a series of national workshops to validate the action plans prepared to consider a holistic concept of environmental flows in the legislation of each country.
Costa Rica: 27 and 28 August
El Salvador: 5 and 6 September
This activity aims to strengthen policies, rules and regulations on water, harmonizing water supply and consumption within the framework of a holistic concept of environmental flows. Building on the outcomes of a regional workshop on environmental flow organised in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2017, representatives of government officials and water users from each country of Central America developed a proposal to include the concept of environmental flow in the legislation of their respective countries.
The progress of the proposed action plan is presented, evaluated and updated at the national seminar. A national committee will be created to support the execution of the plan and monitor the proposed initiatives. Additionally, conferences on environmental flows and different aspects of governance of environmental flows, such as gender perspective and water related conflicts will also be presented.
