Awareness raising session for Permanent Delegations to UNESCO on the need to protect great apes and their habitats, in the presence of Ms Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO and Mr Bruno David, President of the MNHN.
All Great Ape species are under threat and could disapear from the wild within 30 years, due to growing pressures from loss of habitat, declining tropical forests and poaching.

UNESCO protected sites such as Biosphere Reserves and Natural World Heritage sites are the natural habitats of these species whose sustainable management is a global issue. They are a real added value. UNESCO wishes to pursue initiatives for the protection of great apes and brings selements of reflections on activities to implement.
