The event will be held on the occasion of the World Bank Group publication the World Development Report 2018 (WDR 2018)— Learning to Realize Education’s Promise (http://www.worldbank.org/en/publication/wdr2018#). This event will be an opportunity to bring together three leading organizations, namely UNESCO, the World Bank Group and the OECD and to discuss the topical matter with the Permanent Delegations to UNESCO and the delegations participating in the 39th General Conference.

The World Development Report 2018 is the first ever devoted entirely to education. The 2018 WDR explores four main themes: 1) education’s promise; 2) the need to shine a light on learning; 3) how to make schools work for learners; and 4) how to make systems work for learning.

In addition to building on previous WDRs, this Report leverages the broad range of previous work from both outside and inside the World Bank. Prominent recent global reports addressing related themes include the Education Financing Commission report (2016), and UNESCO's Global Education Monitoring Report (2016), which reviews the ways in which education can contribute to all of the Sustainable Development Goals.
