Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate: COP22 thematic day
UNESCO is organizing 2 side events on Disaster Risk Reduction to showcase concrete intiatives, lessons learned and issues to be addressed, and to explore more effective solutions to harmonize Climate Change adaptation and disaster risk reduction measures through science and technology.
Session 1 : Science & Technology and Policy making for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation – essential linkage for comprehensive and effective policy harmonization
This session aims to discuss how science and technology can maximize their impact to reducing disaster risks and losses and adapting to climate change in the context of a harmonized policy making process.
Session 2: Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation at UNESCO designated sites
The objective of the discussion is to find ways on how to strengthen the potential of more than 2,000 UNESCO designated sites, and protected areas in general, to ensure sites’ conservation in the face of natural hazards. Solutions on how to contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation measures would come out from the fruitful discussion between key experts.
