Based on the theme of “Creativity for Sustainable Cities: leveraging culture for social inclusion, economic development, and enhanced resilience”, the training event organized by UNESCO will demonstrate the enabling power of culture and creativity in sustainable and inclusive urban development.
This event will build on conceptual and operational knowledge and expertise developed by UNESCO and its partners in the area of culture and sustainable cities. In particular, the UNESCO Creative Cities Network programme will contribute a series of innovative initiatives and practices to illustrate how local authorities, together with different stakeholders and partners, shape, implement and assess culture-engaged urban development policies and plans.
With the aim of further developing the local capacity to design and implement culture-powered strategies to achieve in cities a set of Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 11, this event will bring together mayors, city officials, technicians, planners, as well as professionals and partners from cultural and creative sectors to nurture a collective reflection on how local practices can be better promoted and integrated in the global sustainable development agenda. By peer learning and experience sharing between cities, the UNESCO training event will address essential urban development topics such as economic growth, participatory urban governance, social inclusion and cohesion, sustainable consumption and production, urban design and territorial planning.
