The UNESCO Office in Cairo in cooperation with the Cairo University, the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in Egypt and the National Commission for UNESCO, organizes a one-day conference on "Women's Rights and Bioethical Concerns" at the Cairo University on 21 April 2016.

The conference will bring together about 150 researchers and physicians to discuss ethical challenges that women in Egypt are facing including female genital mutilation, female participants in research, ethical dilemmas pertaining abortion and promotion of gender equity. It will also discuss how to promote bioethics education that responds to the needs and situation in Egypt.

This is a part of the series of conferences being organized in March and April 2016 in celebration of International Women's Day and follows conferences already held in Ain Shams University, Al Azhar University and Beni Suef University.

This conference is organized in support of the Bioethics Network for Women's Issues in the Arab Region (BiNWIAR) that was initiated in 2011 by UNESCO Cairo Office, Academy of Scientific Research and Technology and eminent experts in the region.
