UNESCO hopes that the community of Borobudur will be key partners in the identification of cultural resources that can be used for the development of creative industries such as pottery, handicrafts, local cuisine etc. The research activities of UNESCO will therefore focus on community initiatives, where local people can share their ideas and knowledge within the wider Borobudur area.<br /><br />ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT:<br />1. Community-initiated cultural resource mapping at the selected project sites in Borobudur sub-district and an in-depth baseline study, including both numerical and qualitative data (and) on the challenges and potentialities of creative industries and heritage tourism;<br /><br />2. Two day workshop on 2-3 April 2013 to introduce the following to the local community:<br />• Community-based Participatory Cultural Resource Mapping<br />• Artisan Baseline Survey<br /><br />OBJECTIVES OF THE ACTIVITIES:<br />1. To identify and establish a database of community’s tangible and intangible cultural and natural resources as well as community-based creative industries<br />2. To improve the stakeholder’s understanding of creative industries and heritage tourism’s potentials as a sustainable way to generate incomes and therefore promote sustainable rural development initiatives<br />
