Celebration of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development: Roundtable on Culture and Sustainable Development
In order to mark the 2019 World Day celebration to promote the values of cultural diversity, dialogue and development in Papua New Guinea (PNG), the PNG Government will organise a Roundtable in Port Moresby with UNESCO assistance.
The wealth of cultural and linguistic diversity that characterises Papua New Guinea (PNG) is the foundation of its identity and the source for creativity. That contributes to community wellbeing and sustainable development. Over the years, the Government of PNG and its people have actively engaged in the safeguarding of its heritage and fostering creativity.
The Roundtable will bring together representatives of the cultural authorities, the key cultural institutions and Civil Society Organisations in PNG involved in the normative actions of UNESCO. The key cultural institutions include the PNG National Cultural Commission (NCC), the National Museum and Art Gallery, the Institute of PNG Studies, the PNG National Film Institute, the Melanesian Institute of Arts and Communication, the Linguistic Society of PNG at the University of PNG (UPNG), and the Conservation and Environment Protection Agency (CEPA).
One of the outputs of the Roundtable will be a roadmap for enhanced inter-agency cooperation for culture and sustainable development in PNG.
