Celebration of International day of education at UN Heaquarters, New York

The United Nations is marking the second International Day for Education on 24 January 2020 with a call to increase political commitment to education as a force for inclusion driving the achievement of all the Sustainable Development Goals.

This celebration event at UN Headquarters is organized by the Office of the President of the General Assembly in close collaboration with UNESCO and other Permanent Missions of member states. The event will bring together the voices of governments, the UN system, civil society, the private sector and youth organizations to strengthen collective action for education, warning that the world is not on track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4.

The second édition of International Day of Education will be commemorated at the United Nations Headquarters under the title "Aligning Inclusive Quality Education Policies with Sustainable Development Goals". The event will call for further commitments to advance the progress towards SDG 4 by leveraging multilateral action to ensure that everyone has access to quality education.

The High-Level Dialogue will seek to build a broader consensus on the practical measures that need to be instituted, the resources to be mobilized and the partnerships to be forged, within and across countries, to realize the underlying aims of inclusive quality education and lifelong learning. It will consist of two interactive panels featuring high level officials from member states, UN agencies, intergovernmental organization, teachers' unions, youth, academia and private sector's representatives.

The President of the UN General Assembly will also launch the Beyond the Basics Global Network on Inclusive Quality Education and Lifelong Learning on this occasion.
