Capacity Building Workshop on the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Community Resilience in Vanuatu
The Vanuatu Culture Centre (VCC) will organize a Capacity Building Workshop on the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Community Resilience in Vanuatu in partnership with CRIHAP, Category II Centre in China from 23 to 27 April 2018. The objective of this Workshop is to foster a better understanding of the role of ICH for enhancing community resilience to natural disasters and climate change impact.
The Vanuatu government joined the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010. Vanuatu Sand Drawing is inscribed on the Representative List of ICH of Humanity established by the ICH Convention.
The VCC’s experience in taking a lead of the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) of the culture sector following the cyclone Pam in 2015 will be utilized as a case study to address the role of ICH in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).
