The Award Ceremony of the fifth edition of the UNESCO Avicenna Prize (2019) will take place in the margins of the 40th Session of UNESCO’s General Conference, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (Room IX), on 14 November 2019.

An interactive session between the laureate and young participants will precede the official ceremony.

This edition rewards activities in the field of "Ethics of Environment" with a special thematic focus on climate change ethics and environmental sustainability.

Established in 2003, the UNESCO Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science owes its name to the renowned 11th-century physician and philosopher of Persian origin known in Europe as Avicenna (980-1038). By awarding individuals or groups with outstanding achievements in the field of ethics in science, the Prize is to highlight the importance of ethics in science, to develop a reflection on the issue and to bring it to the attention of scientists and the general public.
