Assembly of the Ibero-American Council of Sport
The Assembly of the Ibero-American Council of Sports will be held in Punta del Este, Uruguay from 20 to 21 February 2019.
Within the framework of the Assembly, the Ibero-American Council of Sports and UNESCO will organize a panel on "The role of sport in education and learning: opportunities and proposals".
Ministers and high-level sports and education authorities of LAC will be attending, including the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean, Ms. Lidia Brito; the Minister of Culture and Education of Uruguay, Ms. María Julia Muñoz; the Minister of Education of Bolivia, Mr. Roberto Aguilar and the Uruguayan Secretary of Sport, Mr. Fernando Cáceres.
This session will discuss and outline sport and educational policies to promote sport as an essential element for quality education, within the framework of the Agenda 2030 and the Kazan Action Plan. It is is part of the work that UNESCO has been supporting in the field of inter-ministerial dialogue between sport and educational policies to strengthen the promotion of learning and the development of skills through sport.
The Kazan Action Plan was adopted on 15 July 2017 by UNESCO’s Sixth International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport, MINEPS VI.
It marks the commitment to link sport policy development to the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, as well as support to an overarching sport policy follow-up framework and five priority areas for international and national multi-stakeholder cooperation.
