"Artists facing the history of Africa" is a series of monthly meetings, organized by UNESCO and La Colonie. Each month, until June 2018, artists, including members of the International Coalition of artists for the General History of Africa, are invited to share their artistic reflections with regard to the history of Africa, in the presence of historians, anthropologists or sociologists.

This edition will focus on filmmakers.

Aïssa Maïga, actress | Philippe Lacote, director and producer | Dom Pedro, director | Catherine Ruelle, journalist at RFI (Radio France International), specialist in African cinema | Jérôme Raynaud, director and producer | Souad Houssein, expert on African cinema | Nadia Meflah, cinema programmer and teacher.

The encounter will be interactive with film extracts. It will focus on:
- Women in African cinema;
- Representation of African historical figures in cinema;
- Remembrance and testimonials;
- Challenges of financing African cinema.

This initiative is organized in the context of the promotion of the collection General History of Africa, which is the result of work carried out by UNESCO since 1964 to rewrite a history of Africa free from prejudices.
