This special session on "Ensuring a sustainable and broad-based engagement of adolescents and youth in the Arab region: an interactive dialogue", will be organized by UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO and UN-ESCWA in the context of the "Arab Forum for Sustainable Development 2019". This special session discusses a range of possible actions at the national and regional level and aims to support the perspectives and opinions of young people in order to influence decision-making processes affecting their present and future.
As a regional platform dedicated to the 2030 Agenda, AFSD-2019 provides a unique opportunity for review of where Arab countries stand, what practical approaches have been developed and to what extent development planning and policies are in line with the 2030 Agenda key principles and SDGs.
In this context, this special session will directly contribute to the themes of the AFSD-2019 since globally and within the region the issue of young people’s engagement and participation is prioritized as a right on its own as well as an accelerator and solution to attaining inclusive development.
Building on the theme of empowering people in achieving inclusive sustainable development, this session aims to facilite a roundtable discussion between young people, particularly those whose voices are rarely heard and, government officials (decision-makers) representing a range of ministries entrusted with the design of youth and youth related policies and delivery of services and programmes for young people, ensuring by that a shared responsibility for building better societies.
