The ALMATY - YOUTH SPACE is a one-day outdoor event for young people. It comprises the presentation of the existing creative youth spaces and programmes in Almaty, masterclasses, and a final concert featuring the winners of the youth creativity contest on role in sustainable development.

This is a project developed in consultation with young representatives of Almaty education institutions, dedicated to the International Youth Day and the International Day of Peace.

In 2017, Almaty was included into the network of the creative cities of UNESCO (UCCN). This network is on a first line of UNESCO’s efforts designed to promote development of innovations and creativity as key factors of sustainable and inclusive development of the cities. UCCN is strengthening cooperation worldwide on creativity and heritage as a foundation to making cities more inclusive, resilient and sustainable.

Within implementation of the agenda of the UCCN, the ALMATY - YOUTH SPACE is dedicated to enriching our youth communities by promoting available creative youth spaces: youth organizations, youth programmes and volunteer initiatives, part of which they can become to build and promote their creativity and innovative skills.

Today, the major reason of civic inactivity and lack of youth involvement in the social life is the low level of awareness of opportunities, free programmes and activities through which young women and men can improve their skills, apply their creativity, realize their potential and contribute to the society.

The ALMATY - YOUTH SPACE also provides youth with the platform for demonstration of a role of creativity and culture as the instrument for ensuring sustainable development of the cities.
As Almaty is a UNESCO city of Music, this project supports the city’s passion for music culture, and encourages its young citizens to develop and create new projects to advance the implementation of UN Agenda 2030 in cities through music and creative cooperation. The results of a contest for the best youth-led projects on how music can contribute to sustainable development (e.g. music influence on gender equality, inclusion, rapprochement of cultures, interfaith and inter-generational dialogue) will be announced during the event. The best youth-led project ideas will be awarded by Mayor Office of Almaty, UNESCO Almaty Office and other partners.
