African Indigenous and Local Knowledge (ILK) Dialogue Workshop in the framework of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
On behalf of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), UNESCO will convene a Dialogue Workshop on Indigenous and Local Knowledge (ILK) for the African assessment of the IPBES. The meeting will take place from 14-16 September 2015 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
This Three days workshop will bring selected ILK holders and ILK experts together with the Co-chairs and Authors of the IPBES African Regional Assessment in order to reinforce the contribution of ILK to these assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The assessments address the following three themes: land degradation and restoration, sustainable use and conservation, and/or invasive alien species and their control. A further goal will be to engage ILK holders in IPBES processes to enhance the potential benefits and opportunities for local communities. A ILK Dialogue Workshop for the Europe & Central Asia regional assessment will be organised in January 2016.
