The 9th Session of the IGBC will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Room IV, on 16 and 17 July 2015.
This session will be mainly devoted to examining the work done by the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO (IBC) in the 2014-2015 biennium:
- the elaboration of the principle of the sharing of benefits as set out in Article 15 of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2005), and
- the update of the IBC’s reflection on the human genome and human rights.
The IGBC will therefore examine the draft reports of the IBC on these two topics.
In addition, under item 4 of the provisional agenda, IGBC Member States will be invited to discuss critical bioethical issues that could be suggested to the IBC for consideration when defining its Work Programme for 2016-2017 during its 22nd Session later this year.
Furthermore, under item 7 (Miscellaneous), IGBC Member States will have the opportunity to discuss any other matters not already included on the provisional agenda (e.g. the impact of the Statement on the Ebola Virus Epidemic, etc.).
The session will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on 16 July (Thursday), and from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on 17 July (Friday).
