9th Ordinary Session of COMEST and 22nd Ordinary Session of the IBC
The 9th Ordinary Session of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST) and the 22nd Ordinary Session of the International Bioethics Committee (IBC) will be held jointly for the first time at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, from 29 September to 1 October 2015.
During these sessions, COMEST will be discussing its report on the ethical perspective of science, technology and society; and draft report on the ethical principles for climate change (adaptation and mitigation). The IBC will also be finalizing its draft reports on the principle of the sharing of benefits (Article 15 of the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights); and on updating its reflection on the human genome and human rights. The Committees will also be holding joint discussions on the revision of the Recommendation on the Status of Scientific Researchers (1974); on emerging challenges for science and society; and on their respective work programmes for 2016-2017.
This innovative approach in bringing together the events on bioethics and ethics of science is aimed at raising visibility, strengthening synergies, and multiplying impact of the Organization’s actions in this field.
The lecture and award ceremony of the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science will be organized during these sessions on 30 September 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The working languages for the sessions will be English and French, with simultaneous interpretation being provided in these two languages.
Meetings reserved for COMEST and IBC members only will be organized on 28 September, 1 October (after the closing of the public session), and 2 October 2015.
