UNESCO is convening the 3rd Thematic Working Group on Journalists Safety and the issue Impunity on 17 July 2013. Participants will review World Press Freedom Day initiatives that highlighted the importance of Safety of Journalists in South Sudan. Progress will also be documented vis-à-vis the implementation of the Country Action Plan for South Sudan relative to the UN Plan of Action on Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity. The meeting is co-chaired by the Union of Journalists from South Sudan and Free Voice.
On 18 July 2013 the South Sudan Media Sector Working Group will convene its quarterly meeting. The participants will look at the needs that arise from adopting the media bills in South Sudan. On-going media initiatives will also be discussed. The meeting is co-chaired by the Association for Media Development in South Sudan and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The South Sudan Media Sector Working Group coordinates the efforts of all media partners towards the planning, budgeting and the monitoring and evaluation of media development activities in South Sudan in line with development goals. The Working Group also aim to advocate for the necessary human and financial resources to address the most pressing priorities facing the public, community and private media sectors in South Sudan.
These two meetings are open to all media partners, both nationally and internationally in South Sudan. UNESCO serves as secretariat to these two events.
