In Dakar, they found it.
Established a decade ago in Dakar, Senegal, Kër Thiossane has become a hub for digital creativity. Kër Thiossane is the equivalent to an art and design school. The mission of the NGO encourages the integration and use of multi-media in artistic practices and creative traditions in Senegal. Activities range from training and skills development in video editing, experimental theater and video performances through to exhibition organization and consumption opportunities.

In Dakar, they found it.
UNESCO’s International Fund for Cultural Diversity sponsored training and provided equipment that lead to the establishment of a media lab and provided equipment, built capacities. Kër Thiossane trained some 100 African artists to integrate multimedia into all art forms.

Apart from gaining much-needed skills, workshop participants experienced the new possibilities of digital expression and communication. By providing skills that translate into careers and potential futures in the creative economy, this project demonstrated the value of blending new technologies with traditional culture.

An online platform, Ci*Diguente, where African and Caribbean emerging digital artists can network and showcase their work, was also set up by the project, promising the sustainability of the initiative long after its completion.
