Describe the main features of the policy/measure:

Mexico and the European Union have reached an "agreement in principle" on the main trade parts of a new EU-Mexico association agreement. The texts will be final upon signature.
The new agreement replaces a previous deal between the EU and Mexico from 2000.
The agreement will include a chapter on intellectual property rights (IPR), which will indicate high levels of protection and guarantee of respect for these rights, superior to those established in the Agreement on Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights related to the Trade (TRIPS) of the World Trade Organization, with the aim of promoting innovation and creativity, and facilitating the diffusion of information, knowledge, technology, culture and the arts.
The Agreement recognises the economic growth and opportunities provided by digital trade and the importance of adopting frameworks that promote consumer confidence in digital trade and of avoiding unnecessary barriers to its use and development, and affirm the right of the parties to regulate within their territories to achieve legitimate policy objectives, such as the protection of public health, social services, public education, safety, environment or public morals, social or consumer protection, privacy and data protection, as well as the promotion and protection of cultural diversity.
