Key objectives of the measure:

The key objective of the measure is to start up the production of traditional hand-woven carpets and kilims in Mazar-e-Sharif. The production would employ only women and would contribute to the support of the development of women’s entrepreneurship, the increase of their income and that of their families and would thus contribute to diminishing gender inequality.

The measure was part of the initiative ‘Small projects-large effects’ under the auspices of the Office of the High Civil Commissioner (North Regional Command). In 2012, through the six-month of the project duration 16 women were employed (15 workers and one instructor). After producing a number of carpets, and putting them on the market, the project became self-sustainable.  

Results expected through the implementation of the measure:

The result of the project is a self-sustainable women’s production of traditional hand-woven carpets and kilims.

Financial resources allocated to implement the measure:

Support to the project amounted to 210.000,00 Kuna (28.000EUR approx.).
