Ms Deeyah Khan was appointed as UNESCO’s first ever Goodwill Ambassador for Artistic Freedom and Creativity at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris, on 21st November 2016.

The ceremony featured speeches by UNESCO’s Director General, Irina Bokova, and Ms Laila Bokhari, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Norway. Following the ceremony, a debate on freedom of artistic creation featuring Deeyah Khan and UNESCO’s Assistant Director General for Communication and Information, Frank La Rue, was organized.
