UNESCO supports South Sudan’s first Film Festival

Following South Sudan’s ratification of the 2005 Convention on the protection and the promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in January 2016, UNESCO supported the launching of the first Film Festival in South Sudan, which opened on 4 July 2016 in Juba and runs through 7 July. Founded by South Sudanese filmmaker Mr. Simon Bingo and sponsored by USAID through Internews, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Juba among others, the Juba Film Festival is showcasing 30 films from South Sudanese and international filmmakers, including 11 films that are entered in the Film Festival Competition.
