New video: A Question on Artistic Freedom
UNESCO engages with countries around the world to promote human rights and artistic creativity within the framework of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. This film aims to advance the international debate on artistic freedom. Based on interviews made in Indonesia, Norway, and Senegal, the film questions how artistic creation and the role of artists are considered alongside issues of social justice, human rights and freedoms in societies. It confronts artists, policy makers, and cultural actors with critical issues around the status of artistic freedom, which UNESCO understands as a complex bundle of rights including freedom of creation and movement, as well as protection of social and economic rights.
