Creative Cluster Ecosystem Development in Georgia
Creative Georgia and the EU Delegation at Georgia, together with UNESCO, will co-organize a conference Creative Cluster Ecosystem Development in Georgia on 18 October 2019 in Tbilisi, Georgia, as part of the project Designing a creative cluster ecosystem in Georgia.
The conference will be divided into two panel discussions “Governmental policy and creative spaces: why, who, what, when, where?” and “Creative spaces for creative cities,” and will explore ways to nurture Georgian cultural and creative industries (CCIs) through well-informed strategies and tangible actions. The benefits of developing creative hubs through the modernization of outdated, unused buildings such as factories and warehouses will be explored throughout the day. Existing examples across Tbilisi will demonstrate how such initiatives have helped materialize creative and innovative ideas, revitalize cultural activities in surrounding communities, and stimulate networking within the sector. The event, expected to receive over 100 participants, will create awareness about the benefits of clusters or “hubs” for the flourishment of the art and culture as well as the country’s economic, urban and social development. The panels, led by ministry representatives, cultural professionals and private sector actors, will also illustrate the central role of government and cultural policies to create enabling environments for artistic and cultural activities, reflecting the principles of UNESCO’s Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, of which Georgia is an active Party.
Designing a creative cluster ecosystem in Georgia is part of the EU-UNESCO project - Supporting new regulatory frameworks to strengthen the cultural and creative industries and promote South-South cooperation funded by the European Union. The two-year project supports Georgia in creating a new regulatory framework to establish a creative cluster ecosystem which will to contribute to a growing creative economy where creativity, innovation, culture and ICTs are interconnected.
