The government of Quebec announced in October 2020 a plan to pay producers and distributors 75% of their expected income from ticket sales if COVID-19 had never occurred. The policy is available everywhere in Quebec, also in areas where venues are open, in which the compensation amounts are adapted accordingly. The calculation is made on a comparative basis, averaging income made in the last three years. For example, a theatre that usually sells CAD20,000 worth of tickets in October will be able to receive 75% of that amount during that month. The venues are further required to pay all associated artists and other workers.

The reimbursement plan will benefit around 500 cultural organisations that show performances from Quebec. It is related to the CAD400 million (around USD331 million) scheme to relaunch the culture sector that was announced in June 2020.
