To encourage film production in Spain, the Government and the Autonomous Communities have introduced national and regional strategies to reduce duties and tax rates for producers. Where costs are 1 million euros (US$ 1.16 million) or higher, producers of foreign audiovisual works can take advantage of a tax rebate of 20% on costs incurred in Spain. In some Spanish territories such as the Canary Islands and Navarre, this rebate could be as much as 40%. The aim of this measure is to incentivize foreign producers to make their films in Spain and create employment opportunities for local people.
