Of the US$100 million, $US25 million will go to strengthening an emergency fund for community media. The fund was launched by Facebook on March 17, but was only US$1 million at the time. This sum was distributed among 50 North American publications, enabling them to lift their paywall, launch newsletters on COVID-19, or cover the costs of teleworking. The remaining US$75 million will take the form of advertising space in media outlets around the world.
