CDB funding for the Belize Music Agency
- Direct support for artists and cultural professionals
- Compensation for loss of income
In December 2020, the Belize Music Agency received USD12 000 for an “off-the-shelf web-based platform” from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) to host a live-streamed festival. The event showcased entertainers who were scheduled to perform in the National Agriculture and Trade show, which was canceled due to the pandemic. The Belize Music Agency also set up a virtual tip basket to supplement the platform, allowing audiences to donate funds to their favourite artists.
The funds originate from the CDB’s Cultural and Creative Industries Innovation Fund (CIIF), which was set up back in 2017 with an initial amount of USD2.6 million. In April 2020, the CDB allocated USD100 000 for COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grants for Cultural, Creative Industries and the CIIF has provided funds not only to the Belize Music Agency, but also to Kingston Creative (Jamaica), Barbados Innovative Media (BIM), and TicketLinkz (Barbados) among others.
