Every moment, there’s a designer somewhere, creating something new to make our life more beautiful, practical and human. Projects that not only give shape to our desires, but that can transform our conception of the world.
Design’s innovative capacity will be present at Semana D (D Week) in Curitiba (Brazil), recently designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, from 3 to 8 November 2015. Hosted by the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, the D Week will include a large range of national and international conferences, exhibitions and workshops. Designers, enterprises, the academic community and the general public will have the opportunity to exchange information, promote products, share experiences and, collectively, demonstrate the transforming power of design. Moreover, in the framework of the “D%iscount Week” traditional and e-commerce stores will provide design products at affordable prices.
The 2nd International Forum Design Friendly Cities (FICAD) entitled “Design Transforms Urban Scenarios” will also be organized the 5 November in the framework of the D Week. Coordinated by the Institute for Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba (IPPUC), the FICAD will be attended by participants from several backgrounds. Focusing on how to use design as a strategic resource to improve urban planning, the FIDAC is intended to raise participants’ awareness on cities’ development strategies; explore efficient ways to enable cities to be more innovative; enhance the cities’ reputation and reference in creativity, innovation and design; illustrate the progress of Curitiba to become a creative, engaging, humanized and innovative city; and foster exchange between members of the Network. To this end, Bogota and Buenos Aires, two UNESCO Creative Cities, have been invited to share their experiences.
According to Letícia Castro, executive director of Centro Brasil Design, the D Week will mainly aim at fostering the networking and the interaction between the participants. “We want an environment in which the exchange of information will put design as the theme on the conversations and that contributes for the discovery of new opportunities”, says Letícia.
