- Academic background: Ambassador Chicas Sosa holds a Ph.D. in Law and Social Sciences from the Universidad Rafael Landivar of Guatemala, a Masters degree in Diplomacy from the Institute Manuel Maria Peralta of Costa Rica, and a Master Degree in International Contemporary Studies and International Security from the Université Libre of Brussels in Belgium.

- Professional experience: at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Ambassador Chicas Sosa has been:
- Deputy Director for Central American Integration;
- Director-General for Bilateral Relations;
- Minister of the Guatemalan Embassy in Belgium and to the European Communities.
- Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, he served as Chief of the European Union-Guatemala Project within the framework of the UE-Central America Association Agreement.
