2018 International Day of Persons with Disabilities - China Disability Policy Dialogue

3 December 2018, 9:00 a.m. - 15:30 p.m. - China Disability Policy Dialogue will be organized in Beijing on 3 December 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It will bring together 50 key partners and stakeholders, including the government, academia, media and civil society – in particular persons with disabilities and their representative organizations (DPOs), as well as the private sector. The event will feature presentations and panel discussions, focusing on the areas of employment, education, health, access to justice and social security, accessibility and media reporting for persons with disabilities. Strategic planning workshop of the UNPRPD project on disabilities in Morocco

18 October 2018, 9:00 a.m. - 16:00 p.m. - This strategic planning workshop is part of the inception phase of the project "Changing mindsets and instilling human-rights approach in the perception of disabilities in Morocco" supported by the UN Partnership on the rights of people with disabilities (UNPRPD). This inter-agency projects involves UNDP, UNFPA and WHO under UNESCO' leadership. The project aims to change sociocultural norms by reversing prejudices and negative stereotypes about people with disabilities. Its objective is to build a common vision of disability in a human right-based approach, thus facilitating dialogue between national institutions, persons with disabilities, organizations of civil society and the general public. The planning workshop will allow the national steering committee to define the workplan and the relevent indicators for monitoring and evaluation. Conference on "Advancing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Morocco"

17 October 2018, 9:00 a.m. - 16:00 p.m. - In the context of the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UNESCO will organise an awareness-raising conference on the Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (CRPD), with a focus on progress made and challenges in Morocco. This event is organised as part of the project "Changing mindsets and instilling human-rights approach in the perception of disabilities in Morocco" (2018-2020), implemented by 4 agencies of the United Nations under UNESCO's leadership (UNDP, WHO, and UNFPA), with the national partners. It aims to change cultural norms by reversing the prejudices and negative stereotypes against persons with disability. The objective is to build a common vision of disability in a human right-based approach, thus facilitating dialogue between national institutions, personswith disabilities, organizations of civil society and the general public. The awareness-raising conference will recall the philosophy of social inclusion and participation enshrined in the CRPD, and take stock of recent developments and progress made in this area in Morocco.
