World Water Day at Kaunas Sanciai Secondary school
On 24 March we celebrated World Water Day. In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March as the first World Water Day.
In Lithuania World Water Day has been celebrated since 2000. In 2015, the theme for World Water Day is 'Water and Sustainable Development'. It’s about how water links to all areas we need to consider creating the future we want. Kaunas Sanciai secondary school carries out Erasmus+ project "One Drop for the Life".
On that day project participants organized an event and presented project activities to other students of 9-11 forms.
Projects participants presented the results of the analysis of drinkable water:
- Where the drinking water is supplied from
- What the drinking water is used for
- If there is any shortage of drinking water
- The price of 1m³ water
- The amount of water consumed per month
- How much of consumed water falls to every family member
- If there are any possibilities to reduce the consumption of water.
The results were discussed and it was decided to speak to students’ parents and other family members trying to search for the best way to reduce the water consumption.
Also students presented the results of chemical analysis. Students made the analysis of PH, , NO₂ and NO₃ in the school laboratory and ASU laboratory. All the water is suitable for drinking and consuming for daily living needs.
Other project participants prepared presentations about the meaning and use of water in Lithuanian traditions and customs, its importance and signification in folk. Project coordinator announced that the first stage of the photo contests “Water in our lives” is finished and awarded the winners.
