Making Education a Priority in the Post-2015 Development Agenda - NEW REPORT!

A new report has been developed by the Global Thematic Consultation on Education in the Post-2015 Development Agenda co-led by UNICEF and UNESCO, with support from the Governments of Canada, Germany and Senegal and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.

The report offers a summary of the main themes and messages that have emerged from the wide-ranging contributions to the consultation and features the voices of people from around the world. The main message is clear: Quality education and lifelong learning are key to sustainable development.

The report draws from the following platforms and meetings of the consultation process:

  • An online education platform and e-discussions with the voices and participation of over 21,000 people from over 100 countries;
  • Regional meetings on EFA held for the Arab, African, Asia and Pacific and Latin American and Caribbean states; the Collective Consultation of NGOs;
  • A Member States briefing in New York;
  • A consultation with representatives from the private sector and from donor agencies, facilitated by the Brookings Institution;
  • A global meeting held in Dakar, Senegal in March 2013; and
  • The ‘My World’ UN Global Survey where good education ranks as the #1 priority in the post-2015 agenda for 584,329 people out of 853,562 from 194 countries.

The result of these discussions includes a look at what has been achieved since the launch of the Millennium Development Goals in 2000, the gaps and priorities that need to be addressed to deliver the education children and young people need for the future and recommendations on moving ahead in 2015 and beyond.
