Its objective is to promote North-South cooperation and develop education and science in Viet Nam through privileged partnerships.
Rencontres du Viet Nam organizes high-level conferences in Viet Nam which attract research scientists from developed and emerging countries allowing young Asian students to meet with top scientists. It organized six “Rencontres du Vietnam” meetings: 1993,1995, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2006, with the aim of helping Vietnamese scientists and those of the Pacific-Asian world to establish contacts and exchanges with colleagues of the West. Rencontres du Vietnam also organized Thematic Schools in Viet Nam and conferences for the general public. It has also introduced the “hands-on” (La main à la pâte) method of instruction to Viet Nam, and in collaboration with French Teacher-Training Colleges, has constructed a network of more than 1,000 teachers trained in this method. In order to give even more scope to this North-South cooperation, Rencontres du Vietnam is now engaged in the creation of a new international interdisciplinary center in Viet Nam.
