International Union Of Architects

Objectives and Mission: 

Unite the architects of the world on a democratic basis; maintain free exchange among architects; represent architects at international and governmental levels; promote architects' creative, technical and cultural talents and the service they provide to the public; defend the rights and status of the architect in every country; ensure the continued development of professional methods while respecting the specificity of different communities; promote new technologies and encourage new ideas and concepts in architectural design; promote multi-disciplinary exchange; aid in the sustainable development of the built environment; provide the needed assistance to architects' professional structures in developing countries; promote architectural education and facilitate exchange among architects, students and teachers of architecture worldwide.

General description: 

Member Sections (grouped in 5 geographical regions) constitute the life-force of the Union and the centre of its action.
Work Programmes: Public Health; Educational and Cultural Spaces; Sports and Leisure; Architectural Heritage (one representative for each region); Spiritual Places; Architecture and Tourism (one representative for each region); Habitat; Architecture for a Sustainable Future, Renewable Energy Sources, Intermediate Cities Urbanization and Development; Education Programme including 'UIA Charter of Architectural Education'; Professional Practice Commission; UIA Programme International Competitions; Architecture and Children; Architecture for All. The Work Programmes facilitate international contacts between architects with a view to exchange of professional experience; organize international seminars; participate in the studies and work of international bodies dealing in the field of their specificities.
