Objectives and Mission: 

Mission: To encourage the establishment of associations of translators, to bring them together and to encourage cooperation among them; To establish links with other organizations dealing with translation or other aspects of interlingual or intercultural communication; To encourage training and research, and professional standards; To protect the rights of translators all over the world, to make their profession better known and to enhance their status.

IFT carries out various and varied activities, primarily through its 12 thematic Committees: - Languages of Limited Diffusion Committee - Community Interpreters Committee - Media Translators Committee - Training Committee - Copyright Committee - Bibliography Committee - Literary Translators Committee - Terminology and documentation Committee - Technology Committee - Court Translators Committee - Babel Committee - Status Committee It organizes many awards: - the UNESCO international prize for literary and scientific translation - Astrid Lindgren - IFT "Aurore Boréale" (fiction) - IFT "Aurore Boréale" (non fiction).
