International Astronautical Federation

Objectives and Mission: 

Foster the development of astronautics for peaceful purposes; encourage the widespread dissemination of technical information concerning astronautics; stimulate public interest in and support for the development of all aspects of astronautics through the various media of mass communication; encourage participation in astronautical research or other relevant projects by national and international research institutions, universities, commercial firms and individual experts.

General description: 

IAForganizes an International Astronautical Congress which is held each year in a different country. IAF also organizes other Symposia, Workshops and Events around the world.
Together with its associates, the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law, the IAF organizes an International Astronautical Congress, which is held each year in a different country. The International Astronautical Federation also organizes other symposia, workshops and events around the world. In close cooperation with the United Nations, it organizes an annual space Workshop for developing Nations such as those at UNISPACE III. With the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) of the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU), maintaining formal associate relations with UNESCO, the IAF prepared the second World Space Congress (Houston – Texas (USA), October 10-19, 2002). The IAF, together with the Committee on Space Research and the International Institute for Space Law, also conducts an annual survey of highlights in Space for the United Nations.
